Cigna UK HealthCare Benefits (Cigna) is launching Cigna Virtual Health™ - a new health and well-being app which makes it easier for UK employers to help their employees navigate to better health.

The app features a Virtual Health team, providing a personalized experience and tools and coaching to proactively manage people’s health and well-being on the go. Key features include a symptom checker, Virtual GP appointments¹ at times that suit, and prescriptions delivered to the workplace or home for convenience to fit around busy lives. Health numbers can be stored on the app and activity trackers can be synced to help track health improvement and progress.

Cigna’s new research reveals that people believe it’s important to track improvements in their health and fitness. Although people want to make improvements, they find it difficult to get started, and Cigna Virtual Health™ is designed to help. The app will enable employees to get healthy, stay healthy, and access care easily when it’s needed.

New research2 from Cigna reveals:

  • 68% of employees are interested in healthcare provider tools that can help turn tracked data from wearable devices into a more detailed picture of their health and well-being.
  • Eight out of 10 people think that it’s important to track their progress when making health improvements.
  • 94% of people want to improve their health, but only 6% see their health insurer as a go-to source for support to help them do this.

Phil Austin, Cigna’s Managing Director commented, “It goes without saying that healthier people drive a healthier business. Employers are looking for a health partner to change market dynamics and push boundaries. We need to move beyond only treating employees when they’re unwell – Cigna Virtual Health™ is designed with this in mind to support them on their health journey, and most importantly, to stay healthy and well.

Phil added, "Naturally, the appetite for digital solutions is growing fast in our ‘time poor’ nation. We’re committed to providing innovative healthy lifestyle technologies to support employee well-being."

The app was previewed to brokers this week at Cigna’s Fitness Challenge launch event, and attended by Olympian and guest presenter Mark Foster. Mark commented, "As a user of sports apps, it’s great to see healthcare providers like Cigna help their customers to improve and maintain a healthy lifestyle using digital technology and recommended coaching programmes."
